Identification & Functionality

Features & Benefits

Product Highlights
  • TRAPYLEN®145 S is a chemically modified low chlorinated polypropylene with outstanding affinity to polyolefinic plastics such as PP, PP/EPDM-blends and, with  imitations to adhesion strength, to PE.
  • Among our CPO-products this grade has the lowest chlorine content and highest molecular weight of around 110 000. Therefore the solubility in xylene is limited and resin soultions should not exceed a solids content of 5%.
Product Uses
  • TRAPYLEN®145 S is used either as a straight primer or as an adhesion promoter for base coats and pigmented primers.
  • Its principal use is in paintings/coatings for molded parts and sealing profiles in the automotive industry, such as bumpers, side panels and door seals.
  • TRAPYLEN® can also be used in adhesives and flocking agents for door seals.
  • TRAPYLEN® is used in industrial applications where PP based plastics are chemically pretreated.

Product Applications
  • Using TRAPYLEN® 145 S as a primer dissolve the resin in xylene to 5 % solids. This primer can be applied by spraying, dipping, brushing or printing.
  • Drying conditions: 30 s at 80 °C, residual quantity of resin about 3-4 g/m².
  • When using TRAPYLEN® 145 S as adhesion promoter in base coats/pigmented primers, the compatibility of the system must be checked. The resulting base coat can be applied by spraying, dipping, brushing or printing if the system allows it.
  • Drying conditions: Usually 30 min at 80 °C, residual quantity about 15 g/m².

Solubility and Dissolving Process
  • Only soluble in aromatics.
  • Dissolving process: Place 1 part of TRAYPLEN® 145 S and 2 parts of solvent (toluene, xylene) into a dissolver and stir the resin to dissolve it by friction.
  • The temperature of the system should be raised to 60 °C and held there for at least 3 hours.
  • After finishing the dissolving process adjust the solids content to e.g. 5% and filter the solution.
